Vinyl Flooring Installation in Brisbane
How vinyl plank flooring goes down in Brisbane, what separates a good installer from a cheap one, and how to brief yours so the quote and the finished floor both come out right.
Who Lays It
We sell the planks; a local installer lays them. You will not find an installation price list on this page, because a real number depends on your subfloor, your room count and your access, and only the person standing in the room can give you one. What this guide does is explain the trade side clearly enough that you can hire well, brief well and buy the right quantity.
Glue-Down vs Click-Lock
Vinyl planks are installed one of two ways, and the product determines which. Confirm the method for your chosen range before you book anyone.
| Glue-down | Click-lock | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Planks are adhered directly to the subfloor with adhesive | Planks lock into each other and float over the subfloor |
| Subfloor demands | Flat, dry, clean and properly prepared, no shortcuts | Still wants decent prep, slightly more forgiving |
| Result | Low profile, planted and stable, suits big open rooms | Slightly springier feel, needs an expansion gap at edges |
| Who lays it | Realistically a professional installer | A pro, or a patient and well-equipped DIYer |
| Later on | Single damaged planks can be lifted and replaced | The floor can be taken up and sections re-laid |
What a Good Installer Actually Does
The difference between a floor that looks good for years and one that annoys you inside a month is mostly what happens before the first plank goes down. A good installer will:
- Measure the rooms themselves and tell you the total quantity to order, including their allowance for cuts and wastage.
- Check the subfloor properly: flatness, cleanliness and dryness, with moisture checks on concrete slabs where needed, and levelling compound where the surface is not flat enough.
- Let the flooring acclimatise in the room before laying, following the manufacturer's instructions for that product rather than a rule of thumb.
- Use the adhesive and trowel the manufacturer specifies for a glue-down product, and roll the floor so the planks bond evenly.
- Plan the layout before cutting: joint staggering, plank direction with the light, and pattern centring on a herringbone job.
- Finish properly with trims and scotia, and seal perimeter details in wet areas where the job calls for it.
None of this is secret trade knowledge. It is the standard of care you are paying for, and asking about it up front tells you a lot about who you are hiring.
Finding a Brisbane Installer
Brisbane has plenty of capable flooring installers, and finding a good one is mostly a matter of asking the right questions. Look for someone who lays vinyl regularly, not occasionally, and ask to see photos of recent vinyl jobs. If you are considering herringbone, ask specifically for herringbone examples, because the pattern is a skill of its own.
- Get at least two written quotes, itemised so you can compare.
- Ask what insurance and licensing they carry for the work.
- Ask what subfloor prep is included in the price and what would count as an extra.
- Ask who supplies adhesive, trims and scotia, and whether disposal of old flooring is included.

What to tell your installer
A complete brief gets you an accurate quote and a smoother job. Six things cover it.
- Total area, room by roomSquare metres per room, not just a house total. It shapes the quote, the layout plan and the wastage allowance.
- Subfloor typeConcrete slab, timber, particleboard or existing tiles. Nothing changes an installation quote faster than the surface underneath.
- Room list, including wet areasFlag bathrooms, laundries and kitchens, plus big sun-exposed rooms. Both affect method and detailing decisions.
- The product you have chosenRange, decor, plank or herringbone format, and whether it is a glue-down or click-lock product. Share the product page link.
- What else is on the floorOld flooring to remove, furniture to shift, appliances to disconnect. Say it upfront so it is in the quote, not a surprise on the day.
- Access and timingStairs, lifts, parking, and when the site is actually ready. Installers plan their week around this, and clear answers get better prices.
Quote Before You Order
Our strong advice: have your installer measure and quote before you finalise the flooring order. Their measurement includes the wastage allowance for your actual rooms, which means you buy the right quantity instead of guessing. It also means the installation cost is confirmed before the planks are on order. What the flooring itself costs is covered in our cost guide, and if you are still choosing a product, start with the buying guide.
Sort the Floor Before the Installer
Lock in the decor first, then brief your installer with the exact product in hand. Samples are 1 for $15, 2 for $20 or 3 for $25, redeemable against your flooring order.
