How this flooring is installed
We supply the product. Installation is a job for a qualified flooring installer. These are the steps your installer will follow, and the checks worth asking about before the job starts.
Never glue directly to chipboard
Yellow tongue, red tongue and other chipboard style subfloors are made from reconstituted sawdust. Adhesive bonds to those tiny particles, and over time they pull free under stress. Always install a hard overlay, plywood or masonite, before laying vinyl plank flooring. Your installer needs to assess this before any product is ordered.

Assess and prepare the subfloor
Vinyl plank flooring is the most subfloor sensitive category we carry. Any lump, dip or contour underneath will eventually show through the plank. Screed, patch and sand until the slab or overlay is flat.
Check for chipboard or yellow tongue
If your subfloor is chipboard, yellow tongue or any reconstituted sheet, you cannot glue directly to it. The adhesive bonds to the sawdust particles rather than a solid grain, and those particles pull free under stress. Lay plywood or masonite over the chipboard, screw it down well, then glue to that.
Apply hard set adhesive
Glue down with a full hard set adhesive is best practice, full stop. Pressure sensitive adhesives keep the board in position but will not stop doming or dimensional movement as the plank heats and cools. Click together vinyl plank left the market for the same reason: the heat softens the joint. Hard set is the only reliable answer.
Lay the planks and roll
Work in manageable sections. Lay each plank firmly into the wet adhesive, stagger the joints for a natural look, and roll the floor with a flooring roller once a section is down. That gives full contact and eliminates air pockets.
Allow full cure before traffic
Keep the floor clear while the adhesive cures. Check the adhesive manufacturer's guidance for temperature and time, and hold the room at a stable temperature through that period. Vinyl plank flooring is temperature sensitive while the adhesive is setting.
Straight talk on this range
Thicker, quieter, built to keep
The 4.5 mm construction makes Timberland 4.5 feel more solid and quieter underfoot than thinner planks, and the lifetime residential warranty backs the spec. If the budget stretches past the 2.5 range, this is the step up we recommend first.
Why the thicker board is worth it
A 4.5mm plank feels more solid underfoot, softens sound better and is more forgiving over small variations in the subfloor. In a main living area you notice it, which is why this is the tier we point people at for a home they plan to stay in.
Big windows and Brisbane sun
Vinyl plank flooring is structurally fine in our climate, but every synthetic floor can change colour under prolonged, intense UV. That is as true of hybrid and laminate as it is of vinyl. Supplier warranties expect window coverings in direct sun rooms. The board is solid; it is the print layer that wants protecting, and good blinds or UV film are the practical answer.
Glue down with a hard set adhesive is best practice, full stop. Vinyl moves with temperature, and pressure sensitive adhesive is not enough to hold it.
Colour on a screen is a guess. Samples are 1 for $15, 2 for $20, 3 for $25, redeemable on your order.

Timberland 4.5 questions, answered
What is the difference between Timberland 2.5 and 4.5?
Timberland 2.5 is the everyday value wood look range. Timberland 4.5 is the thicker, premium board with deeper grain, quieter underfoot and more forgiving over small subfloor variations. Both are 100% waterproof. Order a sample of each and stand on them.
Is Timberland 4.5 waterproof?
Yes, 100% waterproof throughout the board. The core does not absorb moisture, so kitchens, laundries and wet adjacent areas are all fine.
Does a thicker plank mean a better floor?
Not on its own. Thickness changes how the floor feels and sounds; the wear layer and the quality of the install decide how long it looks good. A 4.5 laid over a poor subfloor will disappoint you, and a 2.5 laid properly will not.
Where does this range suit best?
Main living areas and whole home renovations, particularly open plan spaces where the floor runs a long way and you want it to feel solid the whole distance.
Will it fade or warp in the Brisbane sun?
Warping is not an issue with modern planks of 1.5m or less, glued down. The real risk from constant intense sun is colour change over time, which is true of every synthetic floor. Window coverings are the fix, and supplier warranties expect them in direct sun rooms.
