Wood-Look Vinyl Flooring in Brisbane

Wood look is the heart of the range, and it comes in tiers. Timberland 4.5 is the thickest, most premium plank, with a deep, convincing timber grain underfoot. Timberland 2.5 gives you the same authentic looks at everyday value, which makes it the pick for rentals and busy family homes.

Resiplank Essence sits alongside them with the heaviest wear layer we stock, a commercial specification in a residential price bracket.

All three are glue down luxury vinyl plank, 100% waterproof, and built for a Brisbane home. Every colour carries its price per square metre.

What Makes Wood Look Vinyl Stand Out

Timber grain without the timber. A plastic core, an embossed wood surface and a hard set adhesive underneath, which is what lets one floor run through a kitchen, a laundry and a west facing living room without moving.

The ranges behind it, pick your tier

Same look, different boards. The tier decides how the floor feels underfoot and how hard it can be worked.

How wood look vinyl is installed

We supply the product. Installation is a job for a qualified flooring installer. These are the steps your installer will follow, and the checks worth asking about before the job starts.

Never glue directly to chipboard

Yellow tongue, red tongue and other chipboard style subfloors are made from reconstituted sawdust. Adhesive bonds to those tiny particles, and over time they pull free under stress. Always install a hard overlay, plywood or masonite, before laying vinyl plank flooring. Your installer needs to assess this before any product is ordered.

Glue down vinyl plank being laid into hard set adhesive over a prepared subfloor

Assess and prepare the subfloor

Vinyl plank flooring is the most subfloor sensitive category we carry. Any lump, dip or contour underneath will eventually show through the plank. Screed, patch and sand until the slab or overlay is flat.

Check for chipboard or yellow tongue

If your subfloor is chipboard, yellow tongue or any reconstituted sheet, you cannot glue directly to it. The adhesive bonds to the sawdust particles rather than a solid grain, and those particles pull free under stress. Lay plywood or masonite over the chipboard, screw it down well, then glue to that.

Apply hard set adhesive

Glue down with a full hard set adhesive is best practice, full stop. Pressure sensitive adhesives keep the board in position but will not stop doming or dimensional movement as the plank heats and cools. Click together vinyl plank left the market for the same reason: the heat softens the joint. Hard set is the only reliable answer.

Lay the planks and roll

Work in manageable sections. Lay each plank firmly into the wet adhesive, stagger the joints for a natural look, and roll the floor with a flooring roller once a section is down. That gives full contact and eliminates air pockets.

Allow full cure before traffic

Keep the floor clear while the adhesive cures. Check the adhesive manufacturer's guidance for temperature and time, and hold the room at a stable temperature through that period. Vinyl plank flooring is temperature sensitive while the adhesive is setting.

Straight Talk on Wood Look

Compare the wear layer, not the total thickness. The wear layer is the part your dog's claws actually meet, and it is the number worth asking about before you put two prices side by side.

How wood look vinyl differs from laminate

Both replicate timber, but the core is different. Laminate has a wood fibre core that swells if water gets under the boards. Vinyl plank flooring has a plastic core and is genuinely waterproof throughout. Vinyl is also glued to the subfloor, so you do not need expansion gaps and the floor will not shift under heavy furniture or across a long open room.

Choosing between the tiers

Thickness changes how the floor feels and sounds. The wear layer and the quality of the install decide how long it looks good. Stand on a sample of each: a 4.5 in a main living area is worth the difference, and a 2.5 laid properly will outlast a 4.5 laid badly.

Wood look questions, answered

What is wood look vinyl flooring?

Wood look vinyl flooring is a luxury vinyl plank designed to replicate real timber. The print layer reproduces the grain, knots and variation of natural wood, while the core is 100% waterproof and far more dimensionally stable than timber. Timberland 2.5 is the everyday value tier of that idea.

Is Timberland 2.5 waterproof?

Yes, 100% waterproof throughout the board. The core does not absorb moisture, so it suits kitchens, laundries and wet adjacent areas where real timber would be a poor choice.

How does wood look vinyl differ from laminate?

Both replicate timber, but the core is different. Laminate has a wood fibre core that swells if water gets under the boards. Vinyl plank flooring has a plastic core and is genuinely waterproof. Vinyl is also glued to the subfloor, so you do not need expansion gaps and the floor will not shift under heavy furniture or across a large room.

Is wood look vinyl a good choice for a rental?

It is one of the strongest choices. It is durable, easy to clean, looks the part, and holds up to tenant traffic. The waterproof core means a laundry or bathroom leak is far less likely to ruin the floor, and the price per square metre keeps the fit out sensible.

Can I lay it over existing floorboards?

It depends what is underneath. A structural timber floor that can breathe from below may be able to take an overlay, but it is uncommon and your installer should assess it. If the timber is a floating overlay floor, do not lay vinyl over it: you would trap the timber, stop it breathing, and risk significant movement over time.
